Andrew Christopher Green, Timothy Kelly, and Paul Levack met in Chicago while attending classes, before each relocating to Germany. At zaza’ they’re showing works from 2022, 2019 and 2023 respectively, and while taking on different subjects the works share a methodological conern with framing and technique. The three artists engage with different historical genres of photography; the documentary, the still life, the advertisement, etc.; yet their works referential pastiche is ultimately dissolved by the emotional affects of their subjects.

Paul Levack’s works are skillful documents made with technically advanced equipment of mundane objects, here an aquarium in a pet shop. The two monochromes are non represenational photographs produced by the Chromogenic printing process.

Timothy Kelly’s photographs are highly composed black and white mise en scenes as found in a domestic environment.

Andrew Christopher Green has realized a short film, first shown at the Kassel Film Festival in November 2022, on the fabeled origins of a curious icon found throughout the city of Düsseldorf.

Andrew Christopher Green, Timothy Kelly e Paul Levack si sono incontrati a Chicago mentre frequentavano l’università, prima di trasferirsi in Germania. A zaza’ espongono opere rispettivamente del 2022, 2019 e 2023 e, pur affrontando soggetti diversi, condividono una preoccupazione metodologica per l’inquadratura e la tecnica fotografica. I tre artisti si cimentano con diversi generi storici della fotografia: il documentario, lo still life, la pubblicità, ecc.; eppure il pastiche referenziale delle loro opere è in definitiva dissolto dagli postura emotiva dei loro soggetti.

Le opere di Paul Levack sono abili documenti realizzati con attrezzature tecnicamente avanzate di oggetti banali, qui un acquario in un negozio di animali. I due monocromi sono fotografie non rappresentative prodotte con il processo di stampa cromogenico.

Le fotografie di Timothy Kelly sono mise en scene in bianco e nero molto composte, come in un ambiente domestico.
